Playboy Recession Fatter Models – Apparently, Playboy models get fatter during recessions. A study by Terry F. Pettijohn II and Brian J. Jungeberg at Mercyhurst College looks at how economic conditions affect beauty standards for women by investigating Playboy magazine. (Tough job, eh?) The study finds that when social and economic conditions were difficult, older, heavier, taller Playboy Playmates of the Year were selected.
Recession centerfolds had larger waists, smaller eyes, larger waist-to-hip ratios, smaller bust-to-waist ratios, and smaller body mass index values. These results suggest that environmental security may influence perceptions and preferences for women with certain body and facial features.
The thing that sucks about a recession: having no money. But the upside is that apparently men suddenly think we’re hotter with a little meat on our bones. At least there’s a bright side!
